I began my interest in film as an extra for the Mooz-lum project in 2009. Though I spent hours waiting to be called up to participate I enjoyed the experience so much that I took up acting. I attended an actors/writers seminar hosted by Jade Jenise Dixon in 2011. While at Ms. Dixon's seminar I took an interest in the screenwriters portion after listening to all the great stories being pitched to her.
I went back to take a media writing class at Henry Ford College and began writing the Angels Night screenplay towards the end of the semester. I like so many others in the metropolitan Detroit area was frustrated with so many negative stories being presented about the city of Detroit, MI. Knowing that the Angels Night campaign introduced by former Mayor Dennis Archer was a successful campaign I felt it was a good story to write about and one that the people in the city and surrounding areas would be proud of.
The Angels Night campaign is a campaign designed to combat Devils night arson and vandalism in the city of Detroit. Devils night vandalism consisted of youth vandalizing property and burning abandoned homes in the nights leading up to Halloween. In 1984 there were as many as 800 arsons on devils night in Detroit. Over the last decade those numbers have shrunk dramatically to as low as 93. Some would attribute that to a decline in the urban population, but violent crime such as murder has remained steady by comparison.
The theme of Angels Night draws from letters that were written to hip hop legend Tupac Shakur in 1995 while he was incarcerated in New York state. One letter in particular dealt with the issue of urban violence, and anger management. The Angels Night screenplay draws from those experiences and picks up from there.
The results have garnered a royal reel at the Canada International Film Festival, Official Selections at the Peachtree Village International Film Festival, London Film Awards, and the Las Vegas Black Film Festival.
While raising the profile of the Angels Night story I took up the task of writing Scorpio, a science fiction thriller that brings attention to the terrible events following hurricane katrina along the gulf coast of Louisiana. The treatment for Scorpio took an official selection at the New York Screenplay Contest.
On July 25, 2015 I formed X~Ray vision film & Entertainment to put these stories in a better position to reach production goals. Progress is still being made, and on behalf of the talent currently prepared to bring these great stories to the screen I would like to say thank you for your support, and thank you for visiting this site.
